My entry was one of only four photographic works in this year's prize. I'm glad we photographers haven't entire died out though. Mine was shot on B&W 35mm film, scanned and overlaid, the first of a series of such work in both black and white and colour, shot on film and digitally. More of these are in my gallery.

Work was in installation, drawing, multimedia, digital photography and mixed media, drawing on pop culture, environmental, health and other references.

My thanks to The Framing Game, Charlestown, for their ongoing support.

University of Newcastle Student Art Prize
This image was accepted to the final of the 2016 Friends of the University of Newcastle Aquisitive Student Art Prize. That title is a mouthful, but it's great to have some work up for exhibition in the University gallery at the Callaghan Campus from 14th September to 1st of October. In the happy chance that my work is one of the two winners, it will be staying in the university collection and there's a $1,000 prize as well.
Two of my works were selected for the final of the Newcastle Emerging Artist Prize, run by Newcastle Art Space (NAS), in the 4D (video) category and in photomedia. Both were works completed or coming from my participation in the Skammdegi residency in Olafsfjordur, Iceland last northern winter. The photomedia work was derived from my experimentation with out-of-date fibre based paper and chemicals and paper negatives. Related work is also to be shown in Keepers of the Light, an exhibition also listed on this page.
My thanks to Melissa Bull and the rest of the committee at NAS for organising this very popular competition.

From the North - Iceland group exhibition
From the North is a group exhibition from the 2016 Skammdegi residency in Olafsfjordur, Iceland. This was a 2-3 month residency in the far north in the deep winter. We were exposed to all the kinds of elements you might expect of a near-arctic environment, while living in a community of about 800 people. This work is the result of this time.
Artists who contributed are: Rachel Beetz, Laura Campbell, Samuel Cousin, Jack Duplock, Ellis O'Connor, Will Plowman, Scott Probst, Adam Sloan, Devon Tipp and Alkistis Terzi.

Coast to Coast
Group exhibition of the 2105 Currencies tour to Los Angeles and New York, USA, curated by Danielle Minett.
This exhibition caps of a two-week tour that took place in June and July of 2015. Since then partitipants have produced work inspired by the tour, and also one of the artists that we visited in-studio, Kiel Johnson, has returned the visit and come to Newcastle. Kiel conducted a model-building workshop at Watt Space Gallery on the 26th May, 2016 and then officially opened the exhibition that night. Some of us were also able to catch up with Ian Burns, who we had visited in New York, who happened to be working in the Watt Space workshop preparing for exhibitions in Sydney.

As part of the Skammdegi Festival 2016 an independent installation was held in the single guesthouse room that I lived in for two months. Guests were invited to view the work, or lie on my bed and take in the things that had occupied my mind for the last several weeks.
More images of this installation can be found here.
Thanks to Helgi and Bjarke, owners of Joe's, for the opportunity to carry out this exhibition.
